Junior Pistol Program

The Junior Pistol Program at MRA is open to anyone under age 21 who would like to learn to shoot in the Olympic-style shooting disciplines, such as 10m air pistol and 25m pistol events. We encourage all program members to be competitive athletes in the shooting sports.

All new shooters begin in the Progressive Position Pistol (PPP) air pistol program. The PPP program introduces young pistol shooters to competitive target shooting and gives them a natural progression into the Junior Olympics pistol competitions sponsored by USA Shooting (USAS). There is no minimum age limit, however the youth must be able to hold and shoot an air pistol safely under the supervision of a coach. This program is designed to progressively develop junior pistol athletes from supported positions to the Olympic one-handed unsupported international standing position. PPP gives the junior athletes an opportunity to participate in regional and national competitions while still focusing on and learning the foundational pistol skills at every level.

Our advanced juniors have competed successfully nationally and internationally; several hold a variety of state and national titles in air pistol, sport pistol, standard pistol, and rapid fire pistol. They have been appointed to the National Junior Pistol Team and the National Junior Pistol Squad. They have earned scholarships at civilian colleges and appointments to military academies, as well as become members of the Army Marksmanship Unit.

There is no charge for the initial 3-month introductory period, and club equipment is available for use. After 3 months, a program fee of $100 per year is assessed. In addition, participants who continue beyond the initial 3 months are encouraged to get their own equipment and become members of MRA if they are not already so.
